Job Title: Special Populations Career Counselor

Job Description: The Special Populations Career Counselor will participate in the development of innovative support strategies to support the needs of non-traditional students and special populations in order to achieve academic and technical success.

Candidates must hold a Pennsylvania Educational Specialist Certificate as a School Counselor PK-12. The previously issued Secondary School Counselor certification is also acceptable. Candidates holding an equivalent out of state certification with eligibility to convert their certificate to a PA certificate will be considered.

Major duties include:

Evaluate data and participate in development of innovative support strategies to support the needs of non-traditional students and special populations in order to achieve academic and technical success.

Coordinates the recruitment team for the purpose of providing career and technical opportunities for new students as well as for increasing participation for special populations’ students and non-traditional students; develops a recruitment schedule in collaboration with the sending school districts and the recruitment team, including specialized recruitment efforts for specific programs.

Coordinates outreach opportunities such as the Career Camp, Sixth Grave Visits, College Visits, and Non-Traditional Programs.

Prepares scope and sequence for articulated/dual enrollment agreements for the purpose of meeting PDE/CATS requirements.

Gather, analyze, and present data related to Perkins requirements and post-graduation statistics.

Conduct meetings with students to address concerns in an attempt to promote student retention in programs.

Promote career exploration and post-secondary options to prospective and current students.

Facilitate or assist as needed with the Perkins Comprehensive Needs Assessment to determine high priority areas.

Work closely with administration to ensure that program offerings align with labor market needs and provide a high quality program of study.

Actively seek ways to ensure and improve access and equity within the school.

Provide guidance to students in grades 9—12 in the areas of academic, career, and personal-social development and assist teachers in developing sensitivity to the particular needs of individual students.

Contribute to a positive environment conducive toward learning.

Work cooperatively with other staff members and promote a cohesive team-based approach to the program and curriculum.

Maintain open communication with parents or guardians as necessary.

Attend school functions as required.

Perform other duties as requested or assigned by the Director of Student Services or other appropriate administrator.
