About Us: BCTC is a premier career and technology center that operates as a school of choice, designed for high school students as well as adult students who are seeking to enhance their educational program with a highly relevant career and technical experience that is connected directly to business and industry.
Position Goal: Provide high-quality education to secondary students in our Protective Services – Law Enforcement program. The ideal candidate will guide students in understanding the duties of police officers and public security personnel, including patrol and investigative activities, traffic and crowd control, witness interviewing, evidence collection, crime prevention methods, weapon and equipment handling, report preparation, and more.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, emergency management, or a related field.
Prior teaching or training experience in law enforcement, criminal justice, or public safety is preferred. Current certifications in law enforcement or public safety (e.g., PA Act 120 certification, emergency management, or related certifications) are a plus.
In addition, the candidate must have a minimum of four years of paid law enforcement experience with expertise in areas such as patrol, investigations, corrections, and law enforcement procedures. Willingness to complete coursework to earn a vocational teaching certification, or currently hold a PA Vocational Teaching certificate in Criminal Justice/Police Science (PDE CIP: 43.0107 Occupational Competency Code 2048). Prior teaching experience is not required.
Work schedule: Full-time, 10-month position (190 days/year). Regular hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am to 3:15 pm (7 ¾ hours), including a 30-minute duty-free lunch. The role requires participation in six evening functions per school year, totaling three contractual workdays. Faculty meetings will extend the workday by up to 15 minutes twice a month.
