Location: Lebanon County Career and Technology Center
The Lebanon County Career and Technology Center (LCCTC) is now accepting applicants for the position of Pastry Arts Teacher. This is a 189-day, full-time professional position.
LCCTC’s Pastry Arts program operates within our Culinary department and provides authentic, hands-on industry experience through the student-run pastry shop located in the Hill Top Café. The program follows industry standards and best practices aligned to commercial baking and pastry arts production.
While certification through the American Culinary Federation (ACF) is not required, it is strongly preferred.
Performance Responsibilities:
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:
• Establish standards for classroom behavior, kitchen safety, sanitation, and professionalism that support the school’s discipline and safety programs.
• Identify curriculum content by specifying competencies aligned with industry standards and advisory committee input.
• Plan lessons for each competency that are defined by clear performance standards, competency procedures, and structured learning steps.
• Supervise and manage the daily operation of the student-run pastry shop within the Hill Top Café, including production planning, baking schedules, purchasing, inventory control, cost management, and customer service.
• Instruct students in baking and pastry fundamentals including yeast breads, quick breads, cakes, cookies, pies, laminated doughs, custards, fillings, chocolate work, cake decorating, and plated desserts.
• Teach food safety, sanitation practices, proper use of commercial bakery equipment, and production efficiency.
• Communicate, promote, and support the benefits of CTSOs, including SkillsUSA participation and competition preparation.
• Maintain technological and instructional skills through continuous professional development and industry engagement.
• Maintain active involvement with the program’s Occupational Advisory Committee.
• Communicate with administration, parents, and support staff as necessary concerning student progress.
• Create a classroom and kitchen environment that models professionalism, courtesy, teamwork, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience and knowledge shall include:
• Commercial bakery or pastry kitchen operations
• Food safety and sanitation practices (ServSafe or equivalent preferred)
• Baking production methods and ingredient functionality
• Recipe conversions, baker’s percentages, and culinary math
• Inventory systems and cost control procedures
• Cake decorating and finishing techniques
Knowledge and use of:
• OSHA and food safety standards
• Commercial bakery equipment (mixers, ovens, proofers, sheeters, etc.)
• Standard measuring tools and scaling procedures
• Proper handling and storage of perishable goods
• Computer experience is required.
• High school diploma, along with formal training in Baking and Pastry Arts (Associate degree or higher preferred).
• Must have a minimum of four years of full-time, wage-earning experience in Baking and Pastry Arts, or two years of full-time wage-earning experience and a bachelor’s degree.
• Must possess or be willing to attain a PA teaching certification (Baking and Pastry Arts CIP 12.0501).
• ACF certification is strongly preferred but not required.
