Job Description: Qualifications:
1. Associates Degree required / BS or BA with certification preferred
2. Must possess a high degree of integrity, responsibility, and reliability
Reports To: Principal and Director of Special Education
Work Day: 7:45am – 3:16pm (182 days per year)
Job Goal: To work with any student in any curriculum and help them achieve the goals and objectives of that program.
Performance Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Work closely with all teachers and support students requiring extra help. (Perkins Funded)
2. Assist in motivating students to help them realize the importance of the curriculum, PSSA testing, NCLB, and our HSTW school improvement model. (Perkins Funded)
3. Help students realize the connection between directions given and their coursework. (Perkins Funded)
4. To be available in classes and give students one-on-one help and small group instruction. (Perkins Funded)
5. Be involved with necessary department(s) when working on curriculum. (Perkins Funded)
6. Be available as needed in classes to team-teach with the teacher. (Perkins Funded)
7. Prearrange meetings with students and meet them in vocational programs or other designated classroom(s) to give extra help to struggling students. (Perkins Funded)
8. Perform instructional activities as directed and supervised by the teacher. (Locally Funded)
9. Assist in the use of specialized instructional materials. (Perkins Funded)
10. Assist with the supervision of students. (Perkins Funded)
11. Employ effective and appropriate teaching strategies in working with varying exceptionalities under teacher supervision. (Perkins Funded)
12. Become familiar with the equipment used in the vocational program(s) as assigned. (Perkins Funded)
13. Assist in general clean up of facilities, materials, and equipment (non-janitorial). (Perkins Funded)
14. Treat students with dignity and respect as a person of worth, regardless of the degree of handicap or presence of intervening behavior. (Perkins Funded)
15. Assist in providing individual reinforcement to help student self-esteem. (Perkins Funded)
16. Report to assigned areas for tutoring and supervision as designated in the daily schedule. (Perkins Funded)
17. Maintain confidentiality of student/classroom. (Perkins Funded)
18. Discipline students consistently and positively within the structure established by the school. (Perkins Funded)
19. Assist in developing procedures and techniques for providing appropriate student programs. (Perkins Funded)
20. Be a positive role model for students. (Perkins Funded)
21. Continue to demonstrate a willingness to learn more about the job and the skills necessary to perform it. (Perkins Funded)
22. Be willing to perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor. (Perkins Funded)
23. Evaluation will occur annually by the administrative team. (Perkins Funded)
24. Maintain current Act 48 certification in the individual’s subject area. (Perkins Funded)
25. Act as a substitute teacher in any content area as needed. (Locally Funded)
26. Morning duty will be from 7:45-8:15 a.m. This duty may include but is not limited to, walking the halls and helping to keep order as students enter the building or any other duty assigned by the administration. (Locally Funded)
27. If interested, be an advisor for clubs, classes, or any school-sponsored organization, such as chaperoning school trips and dances. (Locally Funded)
28. The administration can add or delete job requirements as needed. (Funding based upon the nature of the assignment.)
29. Complete other duties as assigned by the administration.
Terms of Employment: Year-to-Year. Salary is to be determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Selection: Appointment shall be by the Joint Operating Committee following the recommendation of the Administrative Director.
Equipment: Use standard office equipment, such as personal computers and copiers.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
– Works in standard office and school building environments.
– Ability to work outdoors if needed during outdoor student activities.
