Job Title: Long-Term Substitute, Learning Support Instructor

Job Description: This is a long-term substitute position teaching Learning Support to 9-12 graders.
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Possesses proper teaching certificate as directed by the Bureau of Teacher Certification, Pennsylvania Department of Education.

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

JOB GOAL: To effectively teach students within the Special Education program at CMAVTS and help them best achieve their educational goals, and to provide learning support.

PERFORMANCE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Track all discipline referrals for all Special Education students and make necessary recommendations.

2. Provide learning support primarily in the Alternative Learning Center and also in labs and classrooms as needed.

3. Assess students vocationally and academically.

4. Provide support to academic and career and technical teachers on adaptation of educational materials.

5. Attend IEP meetings, as assigned.

6. Conduct staff in-service on special education topics, as assigned.

7. Compile and analyze data of special education students and make recommendations as warranted.

8. Support instructors to analyze and utilize an Individualized Education Plan.

9. Provide adaptations for all students assigned to the Alternative Learning Center.

10. Implement the educational program within the philosophy and policies approved by the Joint Operating Committee and the guidelines established by the Administrative Director.

11. Maintain a professional attitude and appearance.

12. Model a sound work ethic and regular attendance.

13. Attain and maintain teacher credentials as required by Pennsylvania Department of Education.

14. Participate in regular professional development activities to keep abreast of advances in technology, curriculum and instructional delivery techniques, and remain current in all areas of the field of expertise.

15. Develop, revise, and implement instructional activities and materials to support the student’s curriculum.

16. Utilize a diversity of instructional and behavioral management delivery methods to motivate students and promote learning. Mentor students and provide counseling and/or refer students to appropriate school specialists.

17. Implement and maintain a system of student discipline and encourage appropriate student behavior.

18. Maintain student records and communicate student progress to parent/guardians.

19. Maintain confidentiality of all student records.

20. Read and implement all students’ Individualized Education Plans.

21. Prepare and submit reports, information, budgets, and inventory as required.

22. Maintain instructional equipment and provide for repair as needed.

23. Adhere to all policies enacted by the Joint Operating Committee and guidelines established by the Executive Director.

24. Supervise Paraprofessionals as assigned/needed.

25. Supervise students.

26. Maintain filing of all paperwork and reports pertinent to position.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Year-to-Year. Salary is to be determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

SELECTION: Appointment shall be by the Joint Operating Committee following the recommendation of the Administrative Director.
