The Librarian I provides professional library service to the campus community, as well as participates in circulation, collection development, and other related activities as part of the library team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

SERIALS/E-RESOURCES AND PURCHASING
• Manage and process print and digital subscriptions, including e-books.
• Provide Library Director with usage data upon request.
• Maintain library vendor contacts and handle invoice payments in Ellucian.
• Maintain passwords and resolve access problems.

CATALOGING/DIGITAL ACCESS MANAGEMENT
• Catalog new materials as well as archival holdings (print and digital)
• Update the library catalog to RDA standards.
• Enable and manage digital access to online periodicals and e-books, plus the college archives.

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT
• Select new items, fulfill requests, update outdated holdings, replace outdated editions.
• Weed and conduct inventories as requested by Library Director.
• Manage physical collections (shelf-reading, label repair, etc.)
• Supply circulation data from catalog as requested by Library Director.

FRONT DESK SERVICE + OPENING/CLOSING PROCEDURES
Work at front desk as assigned by Library Director, doing other duties as much as possible, but with primary focus on providing timely, appropriate, and top-quality reference/circulation service to library patrons. Duties include directing walk-ins to third-floor service points.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Demonstrate day-to-day commitment to the Stevens College core values of excellence, care and community.
• Execute all tasks assigned by the Library Director diligently, on schedule, and to the highest standard.
• Work with other library team members to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly goals as established by Director.
• Participate in staff meetings by giving updates, answering questions, making suggestions, and voicing concerns.
• Answer queries appropriately from student, faculty, and staff members, and address their concerns.
• Communicate with other library staff members in an appropriate, cordial, professional, and timely fashion.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism while representing Stevens College in all forms of communication.
• Expand skills by attending workshops and training sessions, either remotely or in person.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• MLS or MIS from an ALA-accredited program required.
• Current knowledge of modern library techniques, procedures, and tools used in accessing, cataloging, circulating and maintaining library materials required.
• Supervisory experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to solve low-level technical problems with printer, copier, and other equipment.
• Ability to perform closing operations, which involve walking through every part of the building, including stairwells.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other library personnel and with the public.
• Ability to apply library methods and principles in acquiring, circulation, and providing limited patron services.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as a computer, phone, and copier.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing and movement is required. This would require the ability to lift files and file boxes, open filing cabinets, walking, and bending or standing as necessary.
