Qualifications: High school diploma, GED certification or equivalent. Must possess a PDE teaching certification in the career cluster of Transportation, Distribution & Logistics (CIP Code: 49.0202, Occupational Competency Area: Heavy Equipment Construction – Operation 2596) or have the following qualifications to obtain the required certificate: four-plus years of full-time wage-earning work experience beyond the training period in the area of Construction/Heavy Equipment/Earthmoving Equipment Operation.

Experience in field practices of earth moving, site-preparation, construction site layout, excavation, and backfilling of building sites. Must have the ability to teach proper use of equipment and basic maintenance of the machines. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to manage and motivate high school students.

Position goal: This position will provide quality occupational instruction to secondary career and technical students that will prepare them to apply technical knowledge and skills how to safely operate and maintain a variety of heavy equipment, such as crawler tractors, motor graders and scrapers, shovels, rigging deices, hoists, and jacks. Includes instruction in digging, ditching, sloping, stripping, grading, and backfilling, and excavating.

Work schedule: The normal workday is Monday – Friday, 7:30 am to 3:15 pm, 7 ¾ hours. The day includes a 30-minute duty free lunch. 10-months (190 days/year). This includes six (6) evening functions per school year equaling three (3) contractual workdays). Two days per month, there will be up to an additional fifteen (15) minutes added to the workday for faculty meetings.
