Position Available
Admiral Peary Area Career and Technical Center (AVTS) is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Construction Trades Instructor to prepare high school students for successful careers in the construction industry. The successful candidate will provide hands-on instruction in a modern shop environment while fostering professionalism, technical excellence, and workplace safety.
Responsibilities
• Deliver classroom and laboratory instruction in residential and commercial construction.
• Teach carpentry fundamentals, framing, roofing, siding, drywall, concrete, blueprint reading, finishing techniques, and tool/equipment operation.
• Integrate OSHA safety standards and industry best practices into daily instruction.
• Develop lesson plans aligned with Pennsylvania Department of Education Career and Technical Education standards.
• Assess student performance and maintain accurate records.
• Supervise students during laboratory activities and work-based learning experiences.
• Build relationships with local contractors, businesses, and apprenticeship programs.
• Participate in curriculum development, professional development, advisory committee meetings, and school events.
• Maintain an organized, clean, and safe instructional environment.
Qualifications
• Minimum of four (4) years of recent wage-earning experience in the construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of residential and commercial construction practices.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively with high school students.
• Willingness to obtain Pennsylvania Career and Technical Instructional Certification (if not already certified).
• Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet all required background clearances.
Preferred Qualifications
• Teaching or mentoring experience.
• OSHA certifications.
• Experience with blueprint reading, estimating, and construction technology.
