Status: Full Time

Schedule: Monday – Friday – 7.5 Hours/Day, 190 Days/Year
Salary: This professional position follows the Collective Bargaining Agreement Salary Schedule (Bachelor Step 1 – $49,612)

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Capital Area Intermediate Unit is seeking a teacher for its Loysville Youth Development location to develop students' skills and competence in basic building trade concepts. The Building Trades Teacher is responsible for classroom and hand on learning. Critical points of the position include:

Develops and administers Building Trades curriculum consistent with the CAIU goals and objectives; Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction. Teaches knowledge and skills in building trades, including concepts such as measurement systems, power tools, personal safety, design & planning, interior finish work, wall system and roof systems. Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of building trades to everyday life. Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research; Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

KNOWLEDGE & REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education required, PA Certification(s) in Building Trades Maintenance, Building Construction Trades or Carpentry.

Other Qualifications: Understanding and implementation of behavioral management strategies.
